Celebrating 50 years, the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is a global celebration of film, art and collaboration. Here are some events that exemplify these values, including WIFT+, image above.
Aperitivo Italiano – Meet the Italians, September 8, 2025
Held in the elegant STORYS building at 11 Duncan Street, this private event exuded an exclusive “speakeasy” atmosphere. Sponsored by the Italian Trade Commission, the lively Aperitivo Italiano featured a tempting selection of Italian beers, wines, prosecco, and Aperol Spritz, paired with an array of delicious appetizers.
A vibrant mix of filmmakers, musicians, investors, and culinary industry insiders filled the room, sparking engaging conversations and meaningful connections.
The Italian Trade Commission hosts several events throughout the year to promote Italian-Canadian collaboration and to showcase the excellence of Italian wine, cuisine, and culture.
Celebrating Japanese Cinema at TIFF’s 50th Edition
It was a vibrant evening celebrating the nine Japanese films selected for the 50th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival. The spotlight shone on acclaimed filmmakers HAYAKAWA Chie, HIKARI, and SAITO Eri, along with actor KUROZUMI Hisao, who were honoured for their outstanding contributions to Japanese cinema.
Guests—including TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey, MPP Logan Kanapathi, and MPP Mary-Margaret McMahon—enjoyed an exquisite spread of sushi, sashimi, and sake, complemented by beautifully crafted Japanese desserts that delighted both the eyes and the palate.
The elegant reception was co-hosted by The Japan Foundation Toronto, the Agency for Cultural Affairs (Government of Japan), UNIJAPAN, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), and the Consulate-General of Japan in Toronto—coming together to celebrate Japan’s rich cinematic artistry and cultural influence on the world stage.
2025 Women in Film and Television (WIFT+) Reception at TIFF
Arriving at the corner of Richmond and Peter Streets, guests were guided to Ricardo’s by the steady flow of stylishly dressed women making their way to the red carpet entrance. The venue’s soaring glass atrium, striking architectural features, and elegant purple lighting set the tone for a truly special evening.
A professional photographer captured photos of the chic attendees, creating the glamorous atmosphere of an exclusive film premiere. As guests mingled, servers circulated with trays of exquisite appetizers, while a self-serve station offered delicious shrimp tacos, Wagyu sliders, and other delights. Two fully stocked bars kept the energy high as laughter and conversation filled the room. It was an evening of celebration, connection, and support for the WIFT+ Foundation.
